My couples counseling philosophy is rooted in fostering connection, authenticity, accountability, and growth within relationships.
I believe in helping couples navigate their unique challenges with compassion, teaching them to communicate effectively, and encouraging both personal and relational development. My goal is to create a safe space where partners can thrive, deepen their bond, and build a resilient, satisfying partnership.
Once you both are able to sufficiently self-regulate, we work together to identify and shift the underlying patterns that create conflict and distance in your relationship.
This approach focuses on reducing power imbalances and conflict-driving behaviors and attitudes and replacing them with more effective strategies that promote deeper connection, respect, and authenticity.
Once conflict has been reduced, we focus on strengthening your relationship and deepening your connection for the future through research-based techniques. This method helps you enhance intimacy, trust, and friendship, creating a solid foundation for a lasting and fulfilling relationship.
When one or both partners have sensitive, reactive nervous systems but don't know how to self-regulate very well, it often leads to heightened conflict and regrettable impulsive comments and behaviors that create discord, distance, distrust, and disconnection in relationships.
As your couple counselor, I will teach you about your nervous systems, how to calm yourselves, support a dysregulated partner, call "time-outs" in a healthy way, and more, to help you create a space more conducive to peaceful and effective communication.
Past relational experiences, especially within your family of origin, can significantly impact the health or dysfunction of your current relational patterns. Some couples may benefit from a more trauma-informed, attachment-based approach, which focuses on creating understanding, safety, trust, and reparative attachment experiences to heal from relational wounds.
In some circumstances, one or both partners might be referred for individual counseling.
